Advances in Nucleic Acid Amplification-Based Microfluidic Devices for Clinical Microbial Detection

Accurate and timely detection of infectious pathogens is urgently needed for disease treatment control possible outbreaks worldwide. Conventional methods pathogen are usually time-consuming labor-intensive. Novel strategies the identification pathogenic nucleic acids necessary practical application. The advent microfluidic technology devices has offered advanced miniaturized tools to rapidly screen microorganisms, improving many drawbacks conventional acid amplification-based methods. In this review, we summarize advances in approach detect based on amplification. We survey platforms performing two major types amplification strategies, namely, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) isothermal also provide an overview including studies commercialized products SARS-CoV-2 detection. Technologically, focus design devices, selected sample preparation, techniques, endpoint analysis. compare features such as analysis time, sensitivity, specificity different platforms. first section review discusses used upstream clinical preparation. second covers design, operation, applications PCR-based devices. third reviews common (loop-mediated recombinase amplification) performed systems. fourth introduces SARS-CoV-2. Finally, concludes with importance full integration quantitative microbial identification.
